The Sower
The sower is the story of one who plants seeds. We are all sowing seeds as we live and experience life. We live to experience life and to learn, to one day awaken to the knowledge of who we are. The experience of awakening is a journey that unfolds until the end when one leaves the wheel of recurrence. Today, I am sharing another verse in the Gospel of Thomas, verse nine. The first verse states that Jesus said, “Now the Sower went out, took a handful of seeds, and scattered them. Some fell on the road, did not take root in the soil, and did not produce ears, and others fell on thorns; they choked the seeds, and worms ate them. And others fell on the good soil, and it produced good fruit: it bore sixty-per measure and a hundred and twenty per measure.”
In this verse of the sower, the road represents one who does not listen to the truth. Therefore, the seeds that were scattered did not take root. The individual who listens to the teachings does get something new, but it has no root. They believe in coincidence and do not recognize their harvest. The individual scatters the seed among thorns and believes money can buy things. So, the teachings are choked by disbelief. The well-prepared ground, however, produces fruit. The roots of the prepared ground are deep. This is the one who plants their seeds (desires) on prepared soil (the self) and reaps the harvest of what they have planted. They recognize their harvest and realize there is no causation outside of self.
The story of the sower is not a historical event. So what is the lesson of the sower? It is the story of you, I, and everyone living. The sower sows the word. The sower sows seeds and manifests.
