Relax Into Authenticity and Be Exactly Who You Are
“Authenticity: The Courage to Be Yourself”
Relax into authenticity and be exactly who you are. The idea of being truly authentic was a scary feeling for much of my life up until now. Being authentic means embracing everything about yourself and not worrying so much about others perception of who you are. That certainly was not always easy.
The idea of being completely authentic is all fine and good until you are bullied for your looks, or quirkiness; the way you walk, talk, or think. Authenticity then becomes a bad idea and we start hiding parts of who we are. At least that was my experience and I know that I’m not alone.
As I sit here writing this post, I can reflect on how beautiful the past year has been. By truly letting go of the need for validation or acceptance, I’ve been able to embrace my authentic self. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I’ve ever pretended to be something I wasn’t, but I was insecure for a very, very long time.
Now, being free of insecurities is so refreshing and has taught me to be mindful of who I am at the core. By embracing authenticity, I’ve refamiliarized myself with the parts of my personality that I had just sort of buried. In doing so I realized I’m a bit of a rule-breaker and conventional wisdom bores me. I’ve also learned to raise my standards rather than lower them to meet others.
So, what I want to encourage is for you to relax into who you are. Be authentic and the hell with what anyone else thinks about you. Raise your standards! Be mindful of who you are and who you give your attention to. Break some rules and challenge conventional wisdom. Step up...but not to what others expect. Let all the parts of who you are shine through!
